Festivities were underway and mostly everyone was permeated with joy for the up coming year and a load of alcohol.
It was a time to start over in some ways and to see plans grow to fruition or to make sure some plans came to their end. Arthur however sat with an almost bored look on his face and Alfred did notice. He also noticed that there was still half a drink in front of the normally cynical man. This was an oddity.
Sitting beside the older man Alfred eyed up the drink then Arthur. "I would have thought that the evening's festivities would have brought a smile to your face."
A shrug.
"You don't want to enjoy the night?"
Another shrug.
The conversation was failing and instead of thinking of what he wanted to say the younger man blurted out the first thing that hit his booze laden mind. "Do you have someone to kiss for when the clock strikes 12?"
Arthur looked at the energetic busy body with a bit of shock on his face. "What? Why would you do that?"
"It's a tradition! It's a superstition that failing to kiss someone when the New Year is rung in will ensure a year of loneliness." He gave a fake pout.
"So, if I kiss you, do I get to do it twice? Once for my New Year and once for yours?"
A blush crept along Alfred's cheeks as he pondered this, quiet for a short bit of time. "Yes. I think that sounds good."
Arthur gave a laugh and picked up his glass of drink, looking to have a change of mood. "I think after I finish this we should practice a bit."
The American was once more silent, but grinning. New Year's would be rung in well.
