Original - Dream: Dark Companions
May. 20th, 2009 07:12 am"And you shall see the beauty. Twelve dark companions, ready to give themselves up. Ready to give their souls, their very essence for what needs to be done."
He looked down at me. He was still stunning despite his madness; short hair was windswept and damp from sweat, spiky from casting the circles and opening the portal.
I lay on the bed, looking around me, feeling like I was losing a battle with vertigo. I could see the circles. There was so many of them, overlapping. Somewhere moving in a slow, lazy manner, a darkened version of a rainbow sliding over them, like light on oil slicked pavement. Others, whirling so quickly, only glimpses could be seen, if you looked sidelong at them, dark, and shining, like something wet and alive.
"But what is to happen?" I feel my mouth slur out.
He stood on the bed, which was in the middle of a very large room, with perfect balance, casting his look about him, at the spinning circles then into the shifting portal.
"There will be a sacrifice, and the time of the Dark Champions will begin, and the way we know the world will begin anew."
I stared at him. It was the moment we wanted, or it was the moment he wanted and just pressed his ideas into my mind...I couldn't be sure anymore. It seemed like something I wanted dearly, but I wasn't sure how everything was going to transpire, the outcome - hidden from my eyes.
I don't even know why I was here, to stop him? To protect him? To help him? My channels of memory were smoky and only glimpses came to me.
"But I have nothing to sacrifice to them!" I cried out weakly, knowing somewhere in my mind, that I would be the sacrifice and everything that was worked for would be in vain.
He stared into the portal, for a few moments, watching. I stared at him, thinking how much he looked like Keanu Reeves, but bit more sinister.
He was watching the portal, his face rapt and held by the swirling in the portal. I fought to sit up, and looked in the vortex to see what held his attention. Faces, spinning in wide circles, much like the circles that were cast, were looking back out at us.
He glanced down and smiled a benign smile at me, "Do you see them? The Dark Ones and their Consorts." he laughed. I don't know why but I felt like I was missing some part of a joke.
"The Dark Queen, her consort, the Dark King." their visages swam past my eyes. Her face, serene, calm, but with eyes black like oil slicks. The Dark King, malicious and seething with cold rage. Perfect counterparts and I’m sure just as deadly.
An image of fear went by from right to left. A man, with no skin and eyes like the damned smiled back out at me. I heard an introduction of sorts. My mind was in shock and fear still, that I’m sure I misheard the Creature's name. Blood perhaps? I wasn’t sure, my eyes still riveted on the face. If I looked closely, it did look like his body was covered in slickness. Maybe it was blood, I can't remember.
A small child moved slowly into view. She looked sickly and pale. Skin like gossamer threads, so white. Her small mouth pinched in displeasure. My mind was reeling. A child? What had she done to make her so terrible? What had she done to cast herself with this Dark lot? My thoughts quickly stopped as she threw herself towards us, only to be bounced off the portal opening.
My counterpart laughed, and chided her, much like the childling she was, "No not yet my dear. Soon, soon you will be able to come through."
I felt myself fall back to the bed, almost relieved that I couldn't see the images anymore.
He looked down at me and smiled. "It is almost time now...are you prepared?"
I blinked at him. Prepared? How was I to be prepared?
"Of course you aren't. I have shown you things, but not prepared you." he grabbed my wrist, pulled me up, my feet barely touching the rumpled bed sheets. He came close, much like a lover would, his lips moving over my face, down my neck. I could feel his magic curl around me, my body moving with him.
It was done. I could feel it; I was on the edge and about to fall. My job here was done, and I had failed what I had originally set out to do. I was his 13th, I was his Dark Consort. Their new Queen.
I stood on the bed beside him, a changed woman. My hair, no longer the lustrous red, now black like a crow's wing. My nudity covered by a priestess' shift, long and flowing.
I moved to the reversed side of the portal, ready to speak the last words with him. Ready to bring forth our minions, ready to create a new world. I raised my hands, silver bracelets slid down my arms; sliver on white was a delicious coloring.
From the far side of the room a door opened, casting glaring white light into the candle lit room. He spun, furious at the intrusion. "Who goes there? How dare you interrupt us!"
A voice called out into the room, "I am sorry, but I have the last sacrifice for you."
"Oh?" he questioned, glancing at me. I knew he had planned to make me the last sacrifice, but now, that might change and in turn, I wouldn't have to kill him.
A small silhouette came into view, holding a silver tray. I could hear something rolling on the surface. I tilted my head and looked closer at the woman. She looked familiar, but I couldn't place her.
My mind began to reel again; a new wash of dizziness came over me.
